@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org @sarahlasoye@mastodon.social Solidarity from the US, where I am almost certainly on a watch list for filming ICE. Which is an activity protected under the First Amendment.

We denounce the “troubling lack of transparency about what happens to the information gathered through this social media monitoring [by the Standards and Compliance Unit]: how long it is retained, who it is shared with, and ultimately what the [UK] government is using it for.” #Prevent #surveillance #freedomofexpression #ukpolitics #ukpol

@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org @sarahlasoye@mastodon.social We’ve been put on a watchlist 🚨 “It is deeply concerning to see the Prevent duty being used to enable the monitoring of people and organisations simply because they are critical of the programme. That raises serious questions about freedom of expression and the right to dissent and protest [in the UK].” Watch lists are UK Police Normal, this only extends insofar as it is now Home Office directly. Freedom of Dissent and Protest reserved for far right only only.

@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org @sarahlasoye@mastodon.social And that is very worrying and what we will see more and more and worse when AI agents will take over... And this form of control without transparency is basically unacceptable and unlawful... #surveillance #control #bigbrotheriswatching

@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org @sarahlasoye@mastodon.social “You should be allowed to criticise government policy without being put on a list”. Absolutely. One of the many disappointing aspects of this Labour government is their refusal to overturn the dystopian shit laws that the Tories brought in to curb free speech and peaceful protest. A true democracy simply doesn’t need these things. They get introduced when the government stops representing the people and their concerns.

@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org @sarahlasoye@mastodon.social oh the UK has been a digital police state for decades. The rise of the surveillance state brought about the dismantling of civil liberties. I fear the US is moving swiftly along the same route.
