Having just been through the same process (elderly family with elderly friends) I found it best all round to call them and speak to them (if you have their numbers). Invariably if I messaged someone I’d only end up speaking to them any way. That generation seem to prefer calls. What I did also manage was to put a divert on my folks home phone and mobile to my number so when people called I could answer.
