@darkuncle@infosec.exchange @1password@1password.social @reflex@retrogaming.social "Is now AI slop" is the new McCarthyism. So, I went and looked. Here's from their FAQ: "Generative AI is fast becoming a first-party feature in most development environments, including GitHub itself. If the majority of a code submission is made using Generative AI (e.g., agent-based or vibe coding) then we will document that in the pull request. All code submissions go through a rigorous review process regardless of the development workflow or submitter." Look - AI sucks for lots of reasons. It's a speculative bubble that's ruining the economy and driving up hardware prices by nearly an order of magnitude, it's arguably based on intellectual theft, and really stupid people use to to harm themselves in really stupid ways. I understand not wanting to use it, and avoiding it in use. I will say in all those cases - that's assholes actually doing the thing. Not the AI. Machines, including AI, have no morals or common sense. In theory people do, that's up to humans, and yeah some folks drop the ball. But it's not the magical boogeyman that taints everything it touches, and life isn't a moral purity test. They tried that in the 50's and it was a drag. I have bad news for you if you use *any* major online cloud provider - apple, meta, google, or about 40 others - you're already tainted in exactly the same way. I guarantee you someone has submitted AI-assisted coding to mastodon or your client, and just didn't disclose it. Human review and my actual usage experience is key, as is open source. It's one thing to switch platforms because of actual fascism. It's another to indulge in McCarthyism, despite it being fashionable. Bitwarden is a viable alternative.

@1password@1password.social @reflex@retrogaming.social @darkuncle@infosec.exchange I meant to add I used their corporate stuff, and it was ok. 1password is better. Point being - you don't get a nicer bitwarden experience if you pay, sadly.

@tbortels@infosec.exchange @darkuncle@infosec.exchange @1password@1password.social If you think it's a good thing to use AI in a security product, you do not understand the limitations of AI.
