@mike805@noc.social > The real reason here is phone numbers cost money, so infinite spam is not free. This is orthogonal to the problem stated. The problem is that average user can NOT read messages only on the OS they control. Those messages are pushed to the phone, if users won't allow phone to get those messages – desktop gets delinked. As I said – nerds CAN have standalone desktop. Years on. Problem is that you can not explain all that things to non-nerd who might want to contact journalist (having standalone linux desktop). SF are highly competent people. There is no sound explanation why competent secop people won't allow secure communication channel to the general population. > numbers cost money Register with number, then ditch it as usual. Since inception Signal allowed someone else's number to be used for registration. @benroyce@mastodon.social @rootschange@kolektiva.social @scathach@stereophonic.space

@ohir@social.vivaldi.net @rootschange@kolektiva.social @scathach@stereophonic.space What globally unique identifier does one use then? There are several other Signal Protocol messengers that use various random hashes. Secure comms with non-nerds is very hard; I've tried to do it repeatedly. So has the CIA and they failed hard in the 2010s. Ever read about that one? Yeah they got owned bigtime.
