@faithisleaping@anarres.family @passocacornio@tech.lgbt yeah that's why I said it boils down to enabling selfishness, because people want SOME reward for their effort, and direct exchange can only get so far I rewrote my reply several times even, lol, I had a mention how money's helpful to incentivize undesireable things (e.g. garbagepeople get paid surprisingly much, just because SOMEONE needs to do the job, but nobody desires to do it) but I'm prone to nonsense and side-tangents, so ended up cutting that...I tend to end up with enough parentheticals that it's annoying to even myself when re-reading, lol the indirectness also enables large-scale trade (both in volume and geography) and large-scale enables economies of scale which enables outcompeting (even if not maliciously, just efficiency and convenience) ...all roads lead to capitalism, lol

@6@possum.city @faithisleaping@anarres.family @passocacornio@tech.lgbt (e.g. garbagepeople get paid surprisingly much, just because SOMEONE needs to do the job, but nobody desires to do it) Even then if you factor in the PPE their employers fail to provide them and which they'd have to buy on their own dime, it becomes a lot less shiny a pay. They are very frequently exposed to biohazardous or toxic waste without PPE.

  • @6@possum.city @passocacornio@tech.lgbt Yeah, that’s the problem. It enables indirect trade, which is useful. But if we’re not careful it inevitably pools and enables selfishness, sometimes at a disastrous scale.
