@fname @AlisonCreekside War is not about being nice. It is about being in a position to force the other side, or having leverage in negotiations. Iran has its own advantages: home bases, being able to selectively block Hormuz (only Iranian oil flows through). That ship was on its way to be a tool in that blockade, and the US is trying to lift that blockade. The first thing it needs is to get rid of the Iranian war ships.
