Wellcome Trust move to “always open” grant schemes as a form of demand management.
Is it known whether removing deadlines *decreases* applications?
The article says they don’t know that it will (but it will at lest ease time pressures) but this seems like something economists/psychologists/experts might have studied??

Edit: NSF ran a trial which suggests that eliminating deadlines reduces application number

@steveroyle@biologists.social for me personally this would track, i keep getting sucked into applying for quick turnaround smaller amount of money funds out of FOMO when the national lottery rolling application ones for much more generous amounts of money with proper wrap around support are right there!

@steveroyle@biologists.social Adding a time-out upon rejection might help reduce applications. Both by limiting maximum frequency but also by discouraging premature applications.
