Wow! Caught a random episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show on TV. In flashbacks, Rob & Laura tell their son Ritchie stories about their wedding. After wacky antics, Rob ended up with an "upper respiratory infection" and everyone wore cloth #masks to avoid getting Rob's illness! 😷 So a mainstream TV show from the 1960s had a normalizing, albeit comedic, portrayal of masking up in the presence of a contagious illness. When and why did we ever stop doing that?! Full episode: https://youtu.be/DLZw3vG3S7I

Oh no, I realized I forgot to include ALT text for the photo, but when I try to add it, I get a "Record not found" error. Here's a description: A black & white screen shot of the episode "The Attempted Marriage" of The Dick Van Dyke Show. On a portable projector screen, a home movie shows Rob & Laura getting married in a hospital room. Everyone is wearing well-fitted white cloth masks covering noses & mouths; mask corners are drawn together & tied to a single band that wraps around the head.

@michaelgraaf@campaign.openworlds.info @ikuo1000@mas.to you can use the edit function to add the suggested quotation marks so that other unsuspecting readers who have experienced anti-Asian racism (like myself) don’t get a moment of horror! That would be a kindness ☺️
