What a wild butterfly effect: Ruby Central invites DHH to RailsConf and now:
* Almost out of money
* Bad feelings/animosity with at least some of the major Ruby open source contributors
* ED fired
* board almost totally turned over
* primary function (rubygems.org maintenance) now being hopefully outsourced to volunteers
* some AI bullshit
All RC had to do was simply NOT platform him. No big statement, no virtue signaling, nothing. All they had to do was have RailsConf.

@davetron5000@ruby.social “Project DREAM" 🙄 That part read straight out of a bullshit machine, ready to be placed on a VC pitch deck. Wild.

@davetron5000@ruby.social this is all true. My only reason for hope is the turnover. Leadership led them to this, and so I am willing to give new leadership a chance. I do think Marty should also go. For me the AI stuff speaks to trying to stay relevant, and as I said in another thread I just let that wash over me because that’s the industry right now. Maybe it’ll attract dollars, and not lead to rot (we’ll see). But yeah, I’m not volunteering for them, I’m more stopping complaining, giving them rope
