@onion I hesitate to suggest, but you phrased it as a question, so... It's not uncommon in a certain flavour of inattentive ADHD. I see you ponder and philosophise in your feed (not a criticism, you do it very well) and mention about being in your own head rather than the moment. More indicators. But, regardless of the cause, generally when you solve UX problems (which is really what a game is) for someone with inconsistent attention you make it better for everyone. I apologise if I overstep.

Not overstepping at all. I can certainly relate to the ADHD idea, even if I'd probably not be clinically diagnosed. Probably it's more conditioning, and the influence I expose myself to... There are plenty of text-heavy games on Steam and there are for sure people who love them. But then I wonder if they maybe like it despite having to read so much text on a screen. A lot of smaller titles with less budget or less capacity for lots of animation and graphics probably tend towards more text. And then these are going to be the ones developed by 1-2 people, where the voice of the author comes through a lot stronger. I think this is what attracts people to these text-heavy games. Another thing that just came to my mind is how much easier it is to get back to a book after you put it down. You just start reading where you left off. Maybe a paragraph or two before that. But in games, especially less linear games, it can feel like a higher barrier to go back. If anything, this "long term attention deficit" (if there's such a thing) is probably what keeps me from enjoying text-heavy games the most. ^^ @TheMightyGit@mstdn.social
