@Lana@beige.party So how many musicians do you follow and support who aren't good? How often do you offer your visibility with 6k+ followers to give unknown authors and artists a chance of gaining an audience, and how many of your followers would like it to get spammed with bad content? It's still capitalism. Less than 1% of artists or authors ever got enough money to live from this. Serious question. Because I am one of those authors who are currently giving up. Nobody misses it.

  • @cyris@troet.cafe @Lana@beige.party I am a small artist, comic artist, and an indie author and people have slowly started to follow me because my first thought is not about going viral. It isn't even tenth on my list. I do these things because I am passionate about them and I want to grow and be better at them with each piece I create - that is the thing that draws people in. The passion, the drive. I have seen people get big following with stick figures and doodles, and unrefined stories because of their passion.

@cyris@troet.cafe You don't know me. If you did, you'd know how silly you sound right now. I literally run a piano academy. It is my full time job to "give visibility" to young artists who aren't good yet. It has been my life's work for 40+ years. So please. You can sit all the fuck the way down with that performative woe-is-me act pretending like I don't actually walk the walk.

@cyris@troet.cafe This is "you should make art that you're bad at" not "other people should pay for art you're bad at". It's not that everyone should buy recordings of 10-year-olds learning cello. But it's good and valuable for 10-year-olds to learn cello. Many will never become good. Few will be good enough for others to enjoy. Every one will learn something. It's good for humans to try things, struggle, create, and iterate. People that can't tolerate being imperfect, even temporarily, miss out on that.
