@NNN asks about face/neck protection: It's getting into "cold rain season". I wear rubber overshoes, rain trousers and a bicycle cape in cold rain, but freezing rain on the face is unpleasant (and my glasses are hard to see through). Q4. Any suggestions for freezing rain on the face/neck? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite

@ascentale@sfba.social @NNN@urbanists.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A4. Some options: an antique diving helmet a motorcycle helmet a waterproof balaclava and ski goggles a comically large wide brimmed hat with a chin strap that fits over your helmet

@ascentale@sfba.social @NNN@urbanists.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A4 We wear our buffs which can be pulled up over the face without obscuring the vision and keep the rain and snow off the neck and face. If you do a little search you can find different ways of putting it on so that it covers the areas you want. They make them in different fabrics and patterns/colours. In very cold weather (well below freezing) we layer the buffs. In those conditions I always wear one pulled up over my head under my helmet to cover my ears too.

@ascentale@sfba.social @NNN@urbanists.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social I've ridden just after freezing rain once. It was also windy. I'm pedaling up to work and there's a big puddle and I pedal through and realize my bike is moving sideways because the wind is sliding me over the ice that's right under the puddle. A veeerrry long second or two and I as on the other side. Now, if it's rain that is just freezing cold, or changing to snow... *pedal hard* :) I need to find my buffs.
