These elections are cloaked in an odd silence not seen in other elections, much like the stillness before an ambush. It is the wait. The instructions seem to be to avoid taking any violent action so as not to scare the more than 33.4 million people (21.08% of the total electorate—and almost the population of Peru) who abstained during the first round, in addition to the 2.3 million who cast unmarked ballots and the 3.7 million who invalidated their presidential votes. Adding up abstentions, blank ballots, and null votes, the total amounts to 39.4 million, more than the population of Poland."
