But. A beard. That’s like. The symbol of a manly masculine man. With loads of testosterone. No? 😐

That’s what a lot of people grew up thinking, but it’s a generational thing. The shaved look was masculine for a long time, then Afghanistan and Iraq wars changed it. They don’t shave their beard over there so the special forces trying to blend in didn’t either, even if the military usually didn’t allow it. So then beards became masculine again for a while, now they’re apparently not in some weird spheres, mostly the manosphere, because they associate hipsters with the facial hair and progressive values. It’s fucking weird, man. Masculinity is a made up cosmic joke. Pink used to be a masculine color, and blue feminine. There is very little basis in biology for any of this. It’s purely cultural weirdness, people growing out something or shaving it off, wearing a color or not wearing it, showing more skin here showing less there. 99% of it is irrational without cultural and historical context. You have to know what a 90s/2000s hipster is to understand why the beard isn’t considered masculine among this group, and that group itself is a response to history and culture, and so on.
