@edgeofeurope@mastodon.social @scott@social.linux.pizza @ajroach42@retro.social They are seen by ppl as a good thing today because the industry has been so successful in wiping out the alternatives and foisting car dependence upon us within every aspect of our lives. Objectively research (by Sustrans I think…) has shown that a majority would like to live without them but are consummately trapped.

@edgeofeurope@mastodon.social @ajroach42@retro.social many people see AI as a good thing. sometimes cars are genuinely useful, sometimes AI is genuinely useful. sometimes driving is fun, sometimes playing with generative AI is fun. In both cases, in order for the industry to profit, AI and cars have to be forced into nearly every aspect of our lives.
