I need a very small portable washing machine that would be used only for socks. Can anyone suggest one? It has to be small enough that I can lift it and drain it myself. I can’t put my socks with my regular laundry & hand washing is no longer an option (dislocated wrist) I think this could be a huge spoon saver if I could find one that actually works. Help? #disability #chronicillness #ableism #washingmachine

  • @broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca I have seen people bring their own small washing machines to campsites, so it might be worth checking an outdoor / camping store.

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca not sure how else to describe it, but there are collapse-able, bucket shaped portable washing machines I think would likely be a good fit for what you're looking for it should be small enough to lift, but I've never used one, so I'm not sure how large or heavy they are in-person 🤔

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca I have not tried this. is 5 pounds too heavy for you to lift? https://www.amazon.ca/Portable-Washing-Machine-Foldable-Upgraded/dp/B0HBPFLGR7?crid=3B6LPANRT03V4&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ZXRmEN6VqmSC2kMOvEDo1kI2MVmN37EQHE0nWNRDF4iIq_jdutTh8TYkMv4DNUk1pScjn3jE-iK_YwpccKUT2KZS3zyEy3S4GVGXwWbg6bB1jQyUtiXniAxyOdaiZA8PbhR_tFSp21Qng9ry-J2TnpndQ6s9C_MXEuB-AhZKvXdpdBOZK4NrOI6qpqiyo6s1QExRmOvFr0HEMkBTkSX_fiXZgHGCQYswBbFGCiNYmw1lf4AJ2w-PZ-p34gpet1s74R6oEu-Ia4Xuk1gFGKAWiL-wORRjwmf50OmLyt3vVMg.b0WXwZYhFAtk0uS640-TQM61VwcKrQa4dN5DSOJ5Q28&dib_tag=se&keywords=small%2Bwashing%2Bmachine&qid=1790318591&sprefix=small%2Bwashing%2Bmachine%2Caps%2C124&sr=8-7&th=1

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca would you be able to use this manual plunger thing in a bucket? It does not need a lot of force or a very big/deep bucket for socks. Maybe even put the bucket in a bathtub and just tip it over to empty. https://www.lehmans.com/products/lehmans-breathing-mobile-washer

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca I used a 12 L foldable bucket-style washing machine for a couple of years until it stopped agitating. Some points: • the machine gently agitates but doesn’t really have a spin cycle, so things need to be wrung out. my model had a basket insert for “spin cycle,” but it unbalances quickly and doesn’t much help to dry items when it does work • my model also has a plugged spout near the bottom for water draining, tiny suction cups on the bottom, and handle.

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca Why can't you put your socks in with your regular laundry? Putting them in with your regular laundry seems like the most obvious solution, so I must be missing something. (feel free to disregard if this is too personal a question)

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca I second using mesh washing bags for things like bras, delicate sweaters, and yes, even socks. Things you want to keep together, but not get tangled up with the rest of your laundry. I’ve had great success using them in a regular washing machine.
