@ploum@mamot.fr You are spot on...But Ubuntu deserves kudos for pushing the Debian team into making it the distro it always should have been...and if Ubuntu will dump snaps and reintegrate with Debian, all will be perfect

@ploum@mamot.fr I enjoy Debian. Using on my my Laptop, desktop and mom's desktop. My server uses Ubuntu server but Debian would've worked fine.

@ploum@mamot.fr I’ve been using Debian on my desktop computer and Antix on my laptops for many years. For me, the last sane version of Ubuntu was 20.04.

@ploum@mamot.fr The #KDE #Debian live image is exactly the same, simple click install and you have a well polished running systems without the Ubuntu quirks. Just like Ubuntu used to be like.

@ploum@mamot.fr I've used Debian for approximately eight years and I've installed KDE+Debian on my relatives' computers but I've realised that it wasn't a smart choice because Debian doesn't offer rollbacks in case of failed updates/upgrades or (true) automatic updates/upgrades. You become the de facto admin of the computer because it requires an "expert" to install and to maintain. I have since moved on to Aurora for myself and my relatives and it's a hassle-free experience. You should give Aurora or Bluefin (if you prefer Gnome) a try some day.

@ploum@mamot.fr while I agree, Debian imho misses a more user friendly release upgrade. This is the ingredient that makes Ubuntu and LMDE the better option for novice users. The official guide to do this or Debian is still a command line nerd fest. https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/release-notes/upgrading.en.html

@ploum@mamot.fr C'est bon à savoir. J'installe linuxmint pour mes proches depuis toujours, mais peut-être que je testerai debian la prochaine fois. Merci du retour 👍

@ploum@mamot.fr I aligned with you on #Ubuntu having all kind annoying things like Snap. I prefer #LinuxMint ship with Cinnamon, easy to migrate Windows users on it. I would say the difference of LinuxMint over #Debian is * Ubuntu deb versions so much more up to date than Debian stable * That's helping on the software/hardware compatibility ( compatible deb, and more recent kernel supported ) For a stable system and long support #Debian is amazing

@ploum@mamot.fr Arch is my "just works" distro nowadays, for machines where I don't mind rebooting them every once in a while. Has a rep of being very hardcore, but it's really mostly a meme. It's probably the most consistently stable distro I think I've ever run since you do rolling updates instead of big bang version migrations. Like yeah you may need to tinker a bit, but it pales in comparison with the open heart rocket surgery you need to do when Ubuntu isn't working.
