And on a related note, all of the right wing people who are proud of the US’ wartime accomplishments (especially WWII) seem to forget why the US was so good at it. Science and Engineering are the main reasons (okay, scale and being far from a home front [no disrespect Pearl Harbor] top) that the US was so impactful. It’s wild that a lot of the people who are particularly proud of developing a devastating bomb are the same people who hate science funding and science itself.

Please drill this into your head right now: the facts do not matter. It’s fine to appreciate the irony, but the true prime movers are operating on a whole different level underneath what is being said out loud. I upvoted your comment, but if you ask yourself why they hate science funding, you’ll find the answer(s) very quickly.
