@Tutanota@mastodon.social I've really been wanting to replace google maps with something else but it allows me to check what trains I need to use to go from A to B. Is there an alternative with this feature?

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I don't know if it counts as an "alternative" (because it kind of uses Google) but I just find out about Vela maps https://pimpinpumpkin.github.io/Vela/ And don't forget about Here app https://www.here.com/products/wego

@Tutanota@mastodon.social VelaMaps? Based on OSM, but sometimes I need the google information (public transport, traffic, etc.) too.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I have tried a bunch and so far cannot find one with: A) Mapping everywhere (not having to tell it to download an area) B) Ability to update/add listings C) Traffic warnings D) Adding personal notes to listings I don't use maps often going to places I know well. I use them on random trips, and going to new places. Did I miss one that has all/most of those? I'm fine with it being car focused, cuz if it has satellite I can find the bike routes! I was spoiled by Waze and the instant updates. Their being bought by Google was very sad...and now with not wanting to support Israeli companies it's a two-fer. #MapApp

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Never had a problem with Organic Maps. I hear it's less reliable if you're in a remote area outside the metropolitan centres, but it's never failed me. Also you can use it offline, which is brilliant. Just set your route before you leave the house and you can literally Airplane Mode your entire trip. 🤷🏻♂️

@Tutanota@mastodon.social You've been doing a fantastic job showcasing how much amazing free and open software there is to help break loose from the big tech independence and own our digital lives again, thank you! ❤ In case you've missed it! @jellyfin@mastodon.online to replace both Spotify *and* Nextflix at the same time! Just thought they deserve some attention 😊 Edit: Put more emphasis on the "and" because of how huge of an and that is! 😄

@Tutanota@mastodon.social There was some controversy with OrganicMaps some time ago, I think a lot of people moved to @CoMaps@floss.social then. I think it's is great if you don't need real time traffic, of you do I use Tom Tom (that uses OSM).

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I personally use Waze maps, however: *Waze.com uses cookies from Google to deliver and enhance the quality of its services and to analyze traffic.* But it is interactive thus warns about things like radar and/or traffic control or traffic jams.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I've used them all but always come back to OsmAnd. If I need to get somewhere quickly that isn't on osm, I'll use GMaps WV to copy the coordinates, then add the missing POI to openstreetmap so it will be on all 3 apps in the future.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Das sind sehr interessante Alternativen zum Kartendienst von Google Maps. Ich persönlich entscheide mich ebenfalls für HERE WeGo, da es in Bezug auf digitale Downloads sehr zuverlässig ist.
