@lexfeathers@tenforward.social "Big Tech doesn't care if you want AI or not. They should.", written by the same company who added "AI" overview to their search without asking us... I wonder what they'll do with the results, whether it'll make them reconsider it or not

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social A clever move on DuckDuckGo's part, but now I'm trying to figure out how to change my default search provider in Waterfox to the no AI version. :blobfoxlaugh:

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social It’s even steeper now. Of course: “Maybe the users are ri-“ *someone who looks like Jensen Huang in groucho glasses slides them a bulging envelope* (oddly cadenced generated voice) “-wrong. It is the users who are wrong, and are denying the agentic paradigm of the glorious AGI future. We must force it into their bodily orifices as they kick and scream. It is what it is.” *the badly disguised man in the leather jacket smiles broadly and exits*

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social I've been using noai.duckduckgo for a while now. The vote is 3% yes, 97% no at the moment. 😄

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social There is way too much AI in duckduckgo now. Yes, it can (seemingly) all be disabled, but we shouldn't have to. It should not even be an option in the first place. #AI #AIslop #slop

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social > We don't all feel the same about AI. That's why choice matters. Poll says 96% against AI... Sure buddy

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social Please take the hint, Duckie! Make noai the default again.

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social Turns out I already have all the AI features turned off.

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social Bad framing on Duckduckgo's part. The problem is the people, not the computer programs. I am "no" to tech oligarchs running everything and exploiting all of us. Machine learning could have positive uses, but not while they are controlling it.

@light@noc.social 2026-01-16 19:49
@lexfeathers@tenforward.social In what context? That's a meaningless question on it's own.

@Wintergr33n@lingo.lol 2026-01-16 20:00
@lexfeathers@tenforward.social I don't think it's that simple. AI for cancer research? Absolutely. I'm on board. AI in a search engine provided 'free' by a corporation that exploits its users? Nope.

@AndrewRadev@hachyderm.io 2026-01-16 20:06
@lexfeathers@tenforward.social And of course, even if you choose "No", DDG tell you how they're totally respecting that by making all their AI chat nonsense optional. This is why when I open a private window with duckduckgo.com, I see two separate buttons with "Duck.ai" and if I make a search, I see both that, and also something rainbow-colored called "Search Assist". That's what they mean by "optional", they mean "we're actively promoting it and putting development effort into integrating LLMs with everything"

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social In all honesty I think we should consider that this survey may only appear on the noai duckduck page. They didn't bother showing it to their non-noai customers. So it may be biased. I like it but it may be biased.

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social Ohhhh, choice matters, that's why they have AI generated images in search result as OPT-OUT, rather than opt-in. And AI assisted search set to "sometimes" instead of "never" as their default. Makes sense. Well done, my former search engine of choice. As the great philosopher Cher once said "Breaking up is is hard to do"... but well, sometime you have to. (The other great philosopher Lilly Allen said on the same topic "F*%& you, f*%& very very much" but I find that bit too harsh to quote). It was good while it lasted #DuckDuckGo

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social AI, a solution looking for a problem. The 4 point caveats on AI websites “AI can get it wrong, check the result” pretty much sums up why it’s a Grok of Shit.

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social I don't see Duck Duck Go promoting this survey anywhere. Pretty sure it's a fake and not actually being put on by them. Just distributed in anti-ai groups. Same as the discord AI survey last week
