Stealing Lemongrass
One fragrant citrus whiff
The decades slip away
We pried the mussels loose
Then drove up to the campus plot
A singular row, short stalks
I sliced as you prepared the pan
With hot oil and chili
Eager for the pitter-patter sizzle
Cast the magic green-white slivers
Claim pungency among the brine
Tasting the ocean that he crossed
And crying spicy tears.
