@notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com @danbrotherston@types.pl @BicycleDutch@mastodon.social I think there must be room for both. While I agree that the space need is significant and that it doesn't scale particularly well, there are many legitimate scenarios, like having an accident on a bike tour, staying flexible, taking parts of a tour by bike, etc. and then having to continue by train. And it's not only recreational either. There are many reasons on why rental bikes cannot fulfil all the needs. That being said, taking your own bike across Europe is so annoying in practice due to ticketing and reservation requirements, that I can recommend getting a folding bicycle as one option to have the cake and eat it, too.

@f09fa681@digitalcourage.social @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com @BicycleDutch@mastodon.social I will say I'm very tempted to get a folding bike for just this reason. But I don't think I've seen an option for a child seat on a Brompton lol.

@f09fa681@digitalcourage.social @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com @danbrotherston@types.pl @BicycleDutch@mastodon.social I bought a folding bike just for that scenario and it has come in very handy.
