Had a hunch about the rendering issues I was seeing in Contribute, so I did a quick test, and confirmed that it *does* respond to the special Internet Explorer conditional comment tags, where it behaves like Internet Explorer 8: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/internet-explorer/ie-developer/compatibility/ms537512(v=vs.85) So, it IS technically possible for me to do a version of my site that works correctly in browsers older than Internet Explorer 10/11, without really messing with how it renders in anything newer than that. I'd have to kinda approach it as a completely different layout rather than an adaptation of the existing one, but it can also be simpler. I might end up doing that regardless, because I like retro computing, and more importantly, I like the people who *love* retro computing <3 And it would also facilitate the possibility of using my old copy of Contribute to post stuff!

Since the Contribute idea clearly isn't gonna leave my brain unless I seriously try it, but seriously trying it involves implementing and securing a new-to-me XML-RPC API from scratch-ish that I have no use for otherwise, I think the next step is gonna be setting up a little test server running an old copy of Wordpress (obviously not on the public internet) to see/remember how this thing actually *does* when acting as a CMS client. Which, if I choose to proceed, would also be helpful as a "known good" comparison to my own implementation efforts. (I can't find any evidence of a pre-made Django package for the MetaWeblog API, probably because it would need to be pretty intrinsically linked to the structure of something CMS-shaped, but there *are* a couple Django modules for implementing an XML-RPC server, so that would help)
