I don't know what happened in the ottoman period but it is now again basic education around here. If we count the ottoman years (it's possible they continued to study it in greek-speaking regions) we're getting closer to 3000. I guess the modifications stopped at some point, but sure, the scribes kept copying it, I guess even after the invention of typography.
