wrote a whole thread https://mastodon.social/@blogdiva/117026853211729625 but never answered directly your question: it’s for the same reason UK controls Gibraltar. there is no contemporary Morocco and #MENA elites without the billions they made managing for european elites not only migration into Europe in the modern era. they have centuries of managing Europe’s off-shored slavery and subsequent prison/forced labor. #MAGA wants this with #Ceúta if not all of #Morocco. it explains their strategic alliance. @rejinl@masto.nyc

@rejinl@masto.nyc @blogdiva@mastodon.social Morocco also has a colony, West Sahara, it's kind of a proxy colony for the west who tolerate it and buy the phosphate that Morocco loots

@rejinl@masto.nyc @blogdiva@mastodon.social Nope. Neither Ceuta nor Melilla —nor the Canary Islands— are colonies, in the same way that Hawaii, for example, isn't one either. They are autonomous cities that have been part of Spain for centuries: Ceuta since the 17th century and Melilla since the 15th. All of that is nationalist propaganda from the Kingdom of Morocco, which has been trying to claim them for years.
