@Wen@mastodon.scot My mum is from a small fishing village on the Moray Firth, which had 2 harbours - we spent all the summer holidays up there (from Manchester), and the harbours were empty at low tide, with boats tied on long lines. I saw several visitors come in at high tide, and try tying their boats up, only to be laughed at and told not to be stupid by the locals! Ive also seen this on canals here in Manchester - people hiring longboats from the locsl hiring place, tying it up in a lock while trying to go downstream, and getting a shock after travelling less than half a mile at the start of their werk-long holiday!😁
