Love this natural light portrait — the window does all the lighting design here, wrapping her in that soft sideways glow while the garden outside dissolves into a wash of bright foliage, like a second, wilder book open behind the one she's reading. Her whole body folds inward around the pages — knees drawn up, feet tucked, hair spilling forward — the universal posture of someone who has forgotten the room exists. That dark cylindrical jar on the windowsill is a lovely counterweight, sitting like a quiet inkwell at the edge of the scene, and the old dresser cornering the frame on the right grounds it all in some unhurried afternoon. In monochrome, skin, paper and daylight become almost the same substance. Intimate and completely unposed — or at least that's how well it pretends.
