@dansup@mastodon.social How might any of these additional DM features be affected by how fediverse works? Things seem pretty extensible, but I keep wondering if things are a bit more trouble to implement. Especially with individual server costs. Maybe voice memos are deleted after a week or two. If calling was added, would it be outsourced to some other protocol like how deltachat does it?

@jumpingpants@mastodon.social So Voice Memos would be cheaper than videos, which are supported already! We'd just need to add some metadata to load an audio player, perhaps pre-render the waveform data too. For video chat/voice calling, that is really easy and "cheap" using webRTC.
