As much as I love Vietnam, some of the subtle authoritarian quirks still piss me off. Last government rule: if you stay overnight at a friend’s place, you're required to register it through the government app. Sure, it’s mostly symbolic since it's virtually impossible to enforce, but it’s a telling example of the surveillance mindset you occasionally run into.
