"You might not need… a service worker" by Jay Freestone https://www.jayfreestone.com/writing/you-might-not-need-a-service-worker/
Service workers are incredibly powerful but also incredibly complicated. I feel like a lot of people went through the journey of "This sounds nice, but it caused an incident and I couldn't wrap my head around it, so I just ripped it out."

@nolan@toot.cafe I was reading through the post linked from this one and flipping between "WTF? Why the overengineering!" and "What do I know? I don't build web apps at scale." It was validating to come back to this post and have more of the former be reflected. It was particularly bewildering to see someone confronted with the problem described as "We keep deleting files we actually still need," and deciding not to solve it by keeping the files around.
