There is clearly fascist right winger lobbying whatever stuff gaining force in desktop linux, as well as AI infecting the environment in some capacity or another, so part of the userbase is just scared of this happening to a project they like and trust, fearing losing the fundamental values and stability and the ability to self-identify with the project they cherish. People voiced their wants and fears in a petition because of that.
