Apparently there’s yet another edition of Vampire (the RPG) in the works. I never even looked at the last edition. Ever since they sold out to a video game company the RPG stuff has mostly felt like an afterthought placeholder to keep the IP alive. Once a game is controlled by corporate interests instead of creative talent, there’s just no long term vision. Licenses get cancelled or transferred, based on the whims of some distant board of directors. 1/3 #TTRPG #Vampire #Mage #Changeling #WoD

Why didn’t I try the last version? Same reason I won’t try the next one. The parts of World of Darkness that interest me the most are Mage and Changeling. I have nice 20th Anniversary editions (which are now a decade old 😅), but the “5th” iteration didn’t even last long enough to get around to them. I doubt the “6th” will either. 2/3

@deinol@dice.camp The thing I've often noticed is that something gets started by creative people - WoD, CoC, even D&D - and the more changes of power you get away from them, the more it gets into the hands of people who just want to maximise the return on investment, who literally can't tell good from bad as they're publishing it (see also film financiers), who get more and more aggressive about protecting "their" intellectual property because it's just an investment to them, rather than something they created and care about and want everyone to share.
