@ascentale@sfba.social @rasterweb@mastodon.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A2 My crash checklist is: 1. Is my blood still inside my body? 2. Are my bones still inside my body? 3. Are my bones still intact? 4. Is my bike still functional? (check pedals, chain, tires, and handlebars) #bikeNite

@yantor3d@mas.to @ascentale@sfba.social @rasterweb@mastodon.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social I can remember one crash (just slipped sideways on wet leaves on a slick stone path while turning) where shock took over for a couple minutes before I could start to take inventory of my bones and blood. I just lay there for a bit before deciding if I could get up, until someone came by and I had to deal with getting up. I think an arm muscle was torn that time. One other time, only one time, the check of my own body was immediately superseded by "is the baby OK?" He wasn't bleeding and hadn't contacted the road, and he was young enough that whether he was OK was determined by "will he stop crying if I take him out of the baby seat and hold him?" (He was fine, infant car seat attachment to back of bike worked as intended.) That one happened on a neighborhood street that had just been resurfaced by the tar and gravel method. No cars involved. I was bleeding a good bit, but that was an afterthought. Once I determined that my son was OK, I used the baby burp cloth to wipe up my blood, put us back together and rode the rest of the way home, and greeted my husband at the door with "don't worry, the blood's all mine." #bikenite
