@fedops @theregister As for the slide deck: yes, I have seen that one before. I've done more background research on this than 99% of that peanut gallery... And, I think, than him, and most of the Wayland people. As usual for Wayland advocates, he talks about the shiny they like. He doesn't talk about the stuff they remove. But more importantly, he and they never talk about the alternatives. They never talk about NeWS. They don't even think about X12. They don't talk about Arcan. They never mention Plan 9 and Rio. *That* is the*real* UNIX way: windows are in the filesystem, where UNIX is meant to keep things. They always forget that UNIX is about much more than Linux. They don't know or care that there are about a dozen other current supported X11 servers that *aren't* X.org. But they talk about shiny trinkets, toys that I DGAF about. Frames, smoothness, lack of tearing. I literally could not care less. X11 looks great.

@lproven @fedops Without wishing to fan the flames of this discussion, there's one oddity about Xorg vs Wayland on my laptop, running Plasma. Wayland uses about 1w less power than Xorg on openSUSE, at least. I can't run the test definitively under my preferred MATE, as it doesn't support Wayland, but its at-rest power is roughly the same as Plasma under Xorg. It gives a substantial increase in use on a single charge. I don't understand why this should be the case, but it is.

@lproven with all due respect, that is fine from a retro point of view but hardly a way to get the system into the 2020s. It's pretty well aligned with what the systemd haters continue to bring to the table. Hence the split into business-Linuxers and the peanut gallery. @theregister
