I beat Morrowind last week for the first time! I’ve been trying to get into it for years and years and it never clicked but I finally got the hang of it and I’m totally obsessed now. This game is seriously incredible. I’m messing around with lightly modded Morrowind now (just the I Heart Vanilla pack through OpenMW) and it’s been great. I eventually want to do some of the bigger content mods too, but there’s so much about the base game I haven’t explored yet, and I have barely touched the DLCs too so I have a ways to go before doing content mods. I’m messing around with an alchemy build now and holy shit it’s overpowered. I get the memes now. 3.5 hours in and I’m a god already, and I don’t even know all the exploits and stuff, I’m just sort of playing the game normally just with some alchemy mixed in and I’m already insanely wealthy and strong, it’s crazy.

Little Kitty, Big City hit a new lowest price ever on Switch, so I picked that up. Some aspects are a little “my first Unity game”, but it’s got a lot of charm.

I’m not being patient at all this week. In fact, I’m being the complete opposite. NextFest is ongoing, so I am NextFesting for all I’m worth. See it as investments into future patient gaming. I’m sowing the seeds of future on-sale purchases down the road. At first I was disheartened by the deluge of Claude Code vomit projects (some of them seemingly spat out from a single prompt), but after sifting through the muck - admittedly requiring several more times effort than usual - I’ve at least managed to restore my faith temporarily by unearthing some interesting potential gems. I already mentioned some cliff notes here, but I might write a longer standalone post too if I can find the energy. And that is only a small selection of the games I’ve played, anyway.

Cyberpunk is currently out of the picture since I’m still waiting for all of the mods to update for the 2.5 patch. That, and because the game won’t launch with redmod enabled for some reason, even with no mods deployed. Ahh, the love-hate relationship with long term updates for mod heavy games… In the meantime I’ve been jumping between few different things but on the gaming side I mostly went back to KuloNiku, a cosy cooking game with a cute art style and simple but enjoyable gameplay. It has two modes: normal - run and improve your restaurant, interact and bond with characters, take part in cooking duels to raise your fame. endless - just keep cooking. What I really like, beside the gameplay in general, is the fact that all of the orders are somewhat randomised so you don’t end up going through the motions making the exact same recipes. Sometimes people want more of specific ingredient or flavour, other times they don’t want something in their food and sometimes they want a custom meal altogether - it’s nothing too crazy but it adds enough variety to keep things interesting. Besides that, I also played around with the editor for Shadowrun Hong Kong. Not that I’m planning to actually do anything with it (I have enough to do with my current project) but I always wanted to look at one of these games from the technical side. Editor feels a bit clunky (mostly a “me” issue since I’m not familiar with it) but I could see myself explore a bit more of it when I have some free time. Could make for a fun experiment and a good way to test some ideas.

All the RLS Career mods for BeamNG were updated with .40, so I’ll be starting that from scratch today. I figure while I’m in front of the wheel, I’ll drag out nohesi as well.

Making my way through Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I finally took a little time to set up MelonDS on my RP6 in a way that works for me.

I just got Sektori and it’s gripped my mind completely. It’s developed by a former Housemarque dev and it shows – balls to the wall action, kaleidoscopic visuals, and excellent roguelike mechanics. Lots of play modes to choose from, lots of run variety. I also gotta plug Denshattack for those who don’t know. The concept is crazy - Tony Hawk style skateboard tricks with railway trains on roller coaster tracks across Japan - but it’s absolute frenzied fun. I can’t describe it but if you watch a video of it you’ll know if it’s for you. It’s constantly full of surprises and the mechanical fundamentals of the game are just so refined and perfect. Both of these games make me feel like they’re tuning my nervous system, sharpening my reflexes, and challenging me to make sense of a chaotic visual field. It turns out I really like that feeling, and it’s what made Returnal my #1 favorite game of all time. Another like this that I’m getting into is RoboQuest. Fast fun fps roguelite with lots of guns, lots of action, and great comic book inspired graphics. This one is a bit older and can usually be found on sale but it’s a lot of fun. A quieter, slower one (for after the three above have wrung out my brain) is Klei’s phenomenal Mark of the Ninja. It’s a tactical stealth game where you’re a ninja methodically clearing rooms of bad guys. Each room is a thinky puzzle of how to use your limited tools and abilities creatively to neutralize all the enemies and progress. Excellent art style and animation. Expect to try, fail, and try again - the game will patiently wait with you as you figure out how to gracefully ascend each level.
