On April 7th, 1964 the IBM System/360 was released, the grandfather of all our modern IBM Z systems 🤩
This year I observed this by reading a case study from CACM on IBM’s system/360-370 architecture from 1987 digging in retrospectively to why the platform was still so successful 23 years later, the ACM grants free access to the article here, and it's a lovely read: https://cacm.acm.org/research/case-study-ibms-system-360-370-architecture/
We're now 62 years out, and so many points are still salient in the modern era of these systems

@pleia2@floss.social The S/360 architecture seems kind-of quirky in some ways, but the truth is I still run my personal accounts on MVS 3.8 (virtually, using Hercules) and I remember that we had virtual memory, security and VMs long before the 5150 PC :-)

@pleia2@floss.social my syster worked on System 36 mini and I worked on the Series 1 in high school, now that Linux is widespread on the 390 I wish I could find a job with that
