@dnkboston@apobangpo.space @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org @zzt@mas.to I would like to add: a bad-faith organization is always going to treat their "donation" as if they're buying something. The money is bait; once taken, the fashy organization will use that inroad, perhaps offering even more money but only in exchange for concessions (like, say, pressing for acceptance of LLM garbage.)

@jonesmurphy@mastodon.social @dnkboston@apobangpo.space @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org @zzt@mas.to Personally, when I critique "AI" I'm talking narrowly and specifically about large language models (LLMs), and other "generative" systems that only work by hoovering up the whole of human knowledge and creativity, and regurgitating it back at us. They can't output anything that a human hasn't already contributed to the corpus - hence the "model collapse" problem. They can't reason nor solve any new problems. Machine learning (ML) is a broader topic.

@jonesmurphy@mastodon.social @ApostateEnglishman@mastodon.world @dnkboston@apobangpo.space @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org > You do not get to redefine the term for the rest of humanity, whether in English or in any other language. motherfucker, *that’s how language works* most people fucking hate AI, and only people selling shit care to split hairs over a marketing term that was invented by eugenicists to grift for grant money
