@Fasgadh@mastodon.scot @mysturji@mastodonapp.uk @nobrainnopain@social.tchncs.de @kibcol1049@mstdn.social @tiggy@mastodonapp.uk Are aircraft loaded with fuel by weight or volume? I thought the former as volume changes with temperature and a flight I was on added 20,000 ton(ne)s more fuel to divert.

@John_Loader@ohai.social @kibcol1049@mstdn.social @Fasgadh@mastodon.scot @mysturji@mastodonapp.uk @nobrainnopain@social.tchncs.de @tiggy@mastodonapp.uk It’s both. The fuel pumps have a temperature correction so you can target either volume or mass and they should give you the correct equivalent.

@John_Loader@ohai.social @Fasgadh@mastodon.scot @mysturji@mastodonapp.uk @nobrainnopain@social.tchncs.de @kibcol1049@mstdn.social @tiggy@mastodonapp.uk Some unit conversion gone awry here, I think. 20 000 ton(s) of fuel is around 28 000 cubic meters. The 747 Dreamlifter is stated to have a cargo volume of 1840 cubic meters. 747-400F is stated to be able to carry 124 tons. Fuel capacity: 184 tonnes.
