I do wonder why the smallest things will make me unreasonably angry and sad and ruin my day, like in this case, dropping waffles

  • @iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be Are you familiar with the concept of Subjective Units of Distress? That can help explain this... If you're not, this is where I first heard the concept: https://tech.lgbt/@nina_kali_nina/112014343182655077

@iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be your desire to live is a balance between the burden of being alive and the reasons you have to live. and if you don't have much reason to live, only a small increase in the burden (for me it was being constantly in pain, because i was sick and overexerted my body) will throw this out of balance and make you want to kill yourself

@iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be our theory is that you find great comfort in situations when things are going exactly as your brain conceptualized them. you have thought ahead on the next steps, even if they are just carry the waffles to the table, sit down and enjoy them with some syrup. your mind has a goal in mind and a route to get there, and then something changes that and that series of events can't unfold. it ruined the mental path that gave you comfort, your mental comfort got taken away from you. that's essentially a combination of some cognitive inflexibility, emotional dysregulation and unexpected transitions. a sequence gets established mentally, and having to suddenly abandon it can be difficult. the disruption causes an emotional response that's disproportionate to what happened
