It's actually pretty amazing to me (in a depressing kind of way) that people I have have known for years and who I consider to be intelligent critical thinking humans have been utterly taken in by the "LLM's have become conscious and will probably turn into SkyNet" narrative. It's so utterly preposterous to me but they're falling for it hook line and sinker. There's a real risk I'll lose friends over this because they think *I'm* the conspiracy nut for what they see as my stubborn scepticism.
