99% of being a conlanger and having a linguistics special interest is being fascinated by and appreciating, in an explicitly non-judgemental way, by barely managing to do it myself, the wonderful and shockingly varied ways that humans have figured out how to take something as limited and inadequate as a series of sounds/gestures/symbols and *somehow fit thoughts into them,* but the last 1% of it, and in some ways the most artistic part of it, is when I can look at my native language, say "this sucks and is completely inadequate, and I can do it better", and then make a language I wish I could actually speak. or, as the case may be, fail trying and hopefully get just a little bit humbler in the process
