“Don't even get me started about how expensive it would be from a compute and capital perspective to train new generations of models on cross-sectional images with >GB files sizes, cross reference those models with the underlying clinical data, gain regulatory approval for mass access to imaging data, and the inevitability of model drift as new generations of imaging hardware and procedures continue to roll out. Oh, and legal liability, which would require a congressional act of god to immunize them from. Trust me: I will be doing this field for a long time to come, and you too will be doing yours. Do not believe these out of touch plutocrats.” #NoAI

@markmetz@sfba.social Just today the EU Commission (currently in the hands of right-wingers) touted the massive impact of LLMs on mammographs. I know who I trust more, and it's not the EU Commission :D Even someone on Reddit that I can't possibly verify has more credibility in this sphere.

@markmetz@sfba.social This sounds reassuring. However: ⁃ It doesn’t matter whether AI can replace a human. What matters is whether your boss (who, for many people, also has no idea what you do) *thinks* AI can replace a human. ⁃ The AI labs break the law and flout liability as part of their fundamental business process, and so far, the track record on holding them to account is uneven.
