The unusual dual-branding of the VW-Porsche 914 in European markets arose because it was a joint project to replace both VW’s ‘big Karmann’ models and Porsche’s 912. The dual branding caused confusion and diluted the 914’s status as a Porsche. In the US market, where the 914 sold a lot better, it was simply badged ‘Porsche’, with no reference to VW, regardless of whether it was a VW-engined 914/4 or a Porsche-engined 914/6. (2/2)

@davidwilkins@mastodon.online It was called the "VoPo" by some, which was also the nickname for the Volkspolizei (East German State Police).
