@NewtonMark@eigenmagic.net there's an inside-the-head version of that, where an Eustachian tube has been blocked for ages and suddenly clears. A while back I had that as an ongoing issue for months and it really screws with the perception of what normal is. Probably just one of those joys of getting older.
