If you're a sewist in Australia it's getting harder to find decent fabric supplies in-store, now that Lincraft is going online-only. But give Spotlight a miss (and Anaconda and Harris Scarfe) "It was reported in the news today that Lincraft has gone into administration and all stores will be closed. A lot of you are probably thinking of switching to Spotlight. I would encourage you to know first that Spotlight Group was founded by two Israeli billionaires. One of the directors of the company is also the President of the Zionist Foundation of Australia. Spotlight channels money to Israel via its corporate charities division, The Spotlight Foundation. ...Spotlight Group also includes the companies Anaconda, Harris Scarfe, and Mountain Designs. There was a boycott way back in 2023 but it was before most people were fully aware of the situation and may not have picked up much steam." #sewing #BDS #BoycottIsrael

I generally avoid Spotlight anyway, because there's hardly any actual material left there, it's all livelaughlove homewares and knick knacks. The fabric they do sell is literally the same shit I could order online from China, just at big markups. I do have the inner-city privilege of having a few surviving fabric suppliers near me, I know that's not the case in a lot of places.

@stib@aus.social Not true, and a repeatedly made false claim, and always without any facts provided to support. @Corsair_of_time@aus.social - The director in question is of the Spotlight Foundation, not Spotlight Group Holdings (big difference); - ACNC records show their funds only going to beneficiaries in Australia; and - Zero evidence found or offered to demonstrate otherwise. You can rightly advocate against the Zionists (as do I), and support BDS - but doing so without facts hurts those causes greatly.
