I'm not usually a big fan of the "nanny state" narrative so popular with certain news outlets and in parts of that series of tubes we call the internet, however recently I came across an example that's pretty hilarious. A friend of mine in Sydney is turning 99 next month and to help her celebrate this event members of her family who reside interstate decided to send her a case of single-serve bottles of Prosecco as a surprise gift as they know she is fond of a tipple with her evening meal every now and then. The delivery person duly turned up on her apartment doorstep (she lives alone) with the booze. However, my friend had no driver's license (she stopped driving several years ago), no photo id and could not find any of her expired passports to prove she was over 18 and legally able to receive alcohol. 😂 The law is an 🫏 about such things you understand. Apparently it took the better part of an hour and several phone calls for the delivery person to receive permission to leave her gift with her. A friendly neighbour became involved, oaths were sworn as to her age. At one point she overheard an authority figure on the other end of the call ask the delivery person if she was drunk! My friend confirmed to me that by the time this ordeal had concluded she was in great need of a drink. #Australia #alcohol #humour
