They LIKE knowing that people are afraid of them because they like the power of fear. Men are so into making people feel afraid of them, likely because they're afraid of themselves and all the other male wingnuts around them and it's handy to be able to overwhelm whoever you don't like. Get kicked? Kick the next thing lower than you and threaten everyone else. Doesn't justify it. It's a stupid plan for life in general.
