A few more from today- Someone said they think we made chalcedony glass..... maybe? It sure looked like it- and that has been a dream of mine for awhile to pull a tube. Corning made a video and claimed that putting clear over the chalcedony made it colorful- in our experience, it seems to be most reactive on the outside- or just on its own. https://invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=SFfb9QmjzeY Even the scrap and the cullet is gorgeous- they look like rocks- what gave the chalcedony glass its name in the first place. We charged all the crackoff before dinner and turned all the hard to get glass at the bottom of the pot that we could get into 2 big color bars after dinner (mine had bits of metal (silver or tin or zinc) in it. I kinda wish I threw that bit of crack off into an annealer it was so pretty.

  • Excited to see these color bars from when we emptied the silver furnace. It looks like the purple darkened a bunch after annealing the bar.... And some silver got into it when I was making the bar (I gathered over a bunch of the silver glass and messed up the bar twice, folding it back onto itself each time). I may be running out of red phosphor to make the nice red and green warm mixed white, but I have almost a kilo of "3800 K" white and I'm mixin up some. I want to coat a test tube soon with the silver colors. It would be more beige than brown I think. I am super happy to hear that people around Urbanglass are really curious about the color. Everyone that used it wants to melt it again. I think it's only about $10 a pound in materials an shipping to make it- not including the cost to rent the furnace. Most silver color bars are over $40 per pound. I do love the communal aspect of the public furnace #Urbanglass #nyc #glassblowing #residency #color #sculpture #Brooklyn #silver
