We're still arguing over which other animals are conscious, and I think the question "is a fish conscious" is much easier than is an AI conscious.

We're not even that far along, @alienghic@timeloop.cafe. As @emilymbender@dair-community.social points out, these #LLMs *are not* intelligences, experience nothing ever, and so have no capacity for any kind of suffering. So the answer to “are these #LLMs conscious?” is easy: No, next question. If we could just have a media that didn't breathlessly broadcast the muddled blatherings of billionaires, but instead critically examined them and (preferably) give them no oxygen, we would be so much better able to see clearly.
