@gryphonmyers@mastodon.social Zig achieved that independence by making severe compromises, including memory safety. Also, it depends on LLVM. No single vendor is asserting control over Linux, Rust, etc either. Problem is *all* of the vendors are pushing AI in unison. FOSS is designed to resist disproportionate influence by any one actor, but it's hard to imagine any model of software development withstanding something like this. @lu@sunny.garden
